Basketball

Since the NCAA basketball tournament is going on right now, I will write about the rules of basketball. The way to start off a basketball game is called a tip-off when a referee will toss the ball up between two players on the opposite teams. Obviously, the player that gets his or her hand on the ball will tip it to their teammate. Some rules for basketball is that you are not allowed to walk or run without dribbling the basketball. If you did so, it would be called out as traveling.  When a team member makes a basket, the teams have scored two points and then the ball goes to the other team. If a basket is made outside of the three-point arc, then that shot is worth three points. Another way to get more points is if a free throw is awarded to a team according to some format of fouls, which a free throw is worth one point. Each game is divided into two halves with five players on each team. There are many different positions in basketball, such as centers, offensive, defensive, forward, shooting guard, and point guard. In college, each half is twenty minutes long, whereas in high school and younger, the halves are usually shorter and will vary depending on their ages.
